As a life-long sports fan and someone who has been a part of a variety of global organizations, I spend a good amount of time thinking about the power of teamwork and observing the attributes of championship sports teams.
And often I find myself wondering - does YOUR team play to win like a championship team? Whether the team is a company with divisions and workgroups, a team of individuals within a larger organization, or even a team outside of the workplace, what sets a winning team apart from the rest?
In my experience, whether it’s on the playing field of sport or business, a championship team is one that operates with a high level of cohesion, trust, and communication – no exceptions (you know the adage, ‘a team is only as strong as its weakest link’ – exceptions belong there). Each member of the
team brings their unique strengths and talents to the table, and they work together seamlessly to achieve their (mutually understood) goals.
So, how does YOUR team play? Are you operating like a championship team, or is there room for improvement? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
And remember, no matter what kind of team you're on or what quarter of the game you are in, you have the power to make a positive impact and help your team succeed.
