A vision statement isnโt just a string of words that sound impressive. Itโs not about what looks good on a website or what others might approve of. A real visionโthe kind that fuels actionโstarts in the heart.
Whether you're defining a corporate vision or your own leadership path, the key is connection. If your vision doesnโt ignite something inside you, how will it inspire action in the real world?
Similarly, if youโre an organization, if it doesnโt ignite something inside each employee, how can you assume alignment in action?
๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ช๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ โ Whatโs truly important to you (or your organization)? What impact do you want to make? Strip away what sounds โrightโ and get to what feels real.
๐๐ป๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฌ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ฒ๐ โ Your vision isnโt just a goal; itโs a reflection of what fuels you. What values consistently drive your leadership and decision-making? Without them, your vision wonโt hold up when things get tough.
๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐พ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ ๐ฆ๐๐๐น๐ฒ โ Thereโs no one-size-fits-all way to lead. Think about winning sports teams.ย Each head coach may have a unique style that helps steer players toward a championship. How do you move toward results? Whatโs your natural way of inspiring, challenging, or driving change? Your vision should align with how you actually lead.
๐ ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐๐ ๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐, ๐ก๐ผ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐น๐ผ๐ด๐ฎ๐ป โ A true vision doesnโt just sit on paperโit guides decisions and actions. If your vision doesnโt push you to move, refine it until it does. And reconnect with it and what matters about it frequently.
If this is a corporate vision, every employee must understand it and be given the space to consider what makes it meaningful to them. If only 1% of your company has a clue what, why, or how they contribute to the vision, there is no alignmentโjust assumptions that lead to chaos. And letโs be clear: โDrive EBITDAโ is not a vision. Without connection and clarity, thereโs no shared targetโjust disconnected goals that lead nowhere.
As Phil Jackson shared:
A vision without alignment is like a team without chemistryโjust individuals working in isolation instead of toward a collective win.
If youโre ready to drill down on your visionโwhether personal or professionalโletโs talk. Clarity isnโt just nice to have; itโs the foundation for real momentum.
