What DO You Want?

Writer: Alison Conigliaro-HubbardAlison Conigliaro-Hubbard

Ever noticed how easy it is to say what we don’t want?

I hear it all the time in coaching conversations:

❌ I don’t want to stay stuck in this role.

❌ I don’t want to work in a toxic environment.

❌ I don’t want to lose my fire.

❌ I don’t want to chase someone else’s version of success.

And while that’s a great start—knowing what drains you is valuable—it’s not a destination.

If all we focus on is what we don’t want, we leave infinite possibilities for what we do want… which means we’re still lost.

Imagine telling your rideshare driver, “I don’t want to go to the airport.” Cool. But where DO you want to go? If you can’t answer that, they’ll just sit there, waiting. Or worse—start driving, and you’ll end up somewhere random, wondering how you got there.

Now, let’s flip this to your leadership.

What if you walked into your team meeting and announced, “Our goal this quarter is to not fail.” Or, “I want us to not lose market share.”

Not exactly inspiring, right? Without a clear vision of where you do want to go, your team is left guessing—or worse, playing it safe, unsure how to move forward.

Clarity is key. If you want to shift something—your career, your leadership, your relationships—you have to be bold enough to name what you actually want.

So, what do you want? Where are you going?

Start there. 🚀

𝙋𝙨𝙨𝙨𝙩, 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙖 𝙩𝙞𝙥: You don’t need to know how to get there before you place that stake in the ground. But once you do, it’s amazing how the how starts to reveal itself.
